Integrating Cure and Care in Alzheimer’s Disease: INDRC and CLARA Center Researchers Present a Systems Perspective for Precision Medicine

New scientific perspective highlights how artificial intelligence, multi-omics integration, responsible data sharing, and patient-centred care can help advance a more comprehensive approach to Alzheimer’s disease research.

October 20, 2026

Researchers affiliated with the International Neurodegenerative Disorders Research Center (INDRC) and the CLARA Centre of Excellence have published a new scientific perspective in Frontiers in Molecular Medicine, titled “Integrating cure and care in Alzheimer’s disease: a systems perspective for precision medicine“. The article highlights the need to integrate artificial intelligence (AI), systems biology, and patient-centered care to advance precision medicine for Alzheimer’s disease.

Published on 14 October 2026, the article was authored by James A.Rice, Jean-Marie C. Bouteiller, and Ara S. Khachaturian.

The authors argue that Alzheimer’s disease should be understood as a complex condition driven by multiple interacting biological processes, including amyloid and tau pathology, neuroinflammation, immune dysregulation, and vascular dysfunction.

The article also highlights the potential of AI and multi-omics integration to uncover meaningful patterns across complex biomedical data, improve understanding of disease mechanisms, enhance risk prediction, and support more individualized approaches to prevention and treatment. Realizing this potential, however, will require high-quality interoperable data, responsible international collaboration, strong privacy protection, and rigorous validation of AI-generated findings.

The paper’s central message is that cure and care must be integrated rather than treated as separate priorities.

The authors call for a continuous learning research and healthcare ecosystem in which scientific discoveries inform clinical practice and real-world patient outcomes, in turn, guide future research.

This perspective reinforces the interdisciplinary mission of INDRC and the CLARA Centre of Excellence: bringing together advanced computational technologies, systems approaches, and neuroscience to translate scientific innovation into meaningful benefits for people affected by Alzheimer‘s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
