The Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) is one of the largest and oldest technical universities in Europe. Over 19,000 students study at eight CTU faculties.
In CLARA, the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC CTU) is participating in the project on behalf of CTU. CIIRC CTU is a modern research institute that concentrates on cutting-edge research in the fields of computer science, robotics, cybernetics and related areas (bioinformatics, assistive technologies, etc.). CIIRC CTU is a national CoE for AI. CIIRC CTU is a member of the most prominent European networks on AI (ELLIS, CAIRNE) and builds a unique ecosystem for AI and advanced manufacturing. Thanks to RICAIP (Research and Innovation Center on Advanced Industrial Production, H2020 Teaming Phase II project), CIIRC CTU has become a mover in both the Czech and international ecosystem for AI, esp. in industrial robotics.
Dr. Josef Šivic acts as the principal investigator at CTU of AI-focused Horizon Europe projects ELISE, euROBIN, ELIAS, and FRONTIER (ERC Advanced). Thanks to CLARA, CTU will broaden its scope in the development of AI/ML for quantum molecular simulations and protein dynamics. CTU provides knowledge in AI.
Thanks to the running CSA projects (RICAIP), CIIRC can also share best practices from project implementation.
CIIRC leads WP4 on HR Development, T4.2 on Mobility Program T6.1 on Dissemination and communication plan and activities. The Project Management Office at CIIRC CTU with the mentoring of BAdW-LRZ will help CLARA to set up a strategy to promote (individual and cooperative) highly competitive national, EU, and international projects for its growth and sustainability.
„CTU will contribute expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning in neurodegenerative diseases research within CLARA, especially through our institute. Our expertise in computing and machine learning will enable the development of advanced algorithms and systems that will be able to analyse complex brain research data and bring new insights into neurodegenerative diseases.“
Principal Investigator for CTU, RP1 Co-Leader
„Data acquisition in biomedicine seems expensive, but with the help of new approaches in AI, it may ultimately be many times cheaper than before. It is absolutely fascinating to see what technologies will be available at CLARA and what new models we will be able to put into practice with their help. I believe that we will soon reach the level of predictive methods that we will be able to start testing and using in practice.“
RP2 Co-Leader
„CTU will focus on the expansion of IT infrastructure and acquire a newly modernized computing cluster at CIIRC CTU. The CTU computing cluster will be used mainly for solving artificial intelligence tasks using deep neural networks. One example is the development of entirely new neural models that enable significantly faster computations of protein interactions with other biomolecules in the brain,“
