Short bio

Ara S. Khachaturian, Ph.D., is Chief Scientific Officer of the International Neurodegenerative Disorders Research Center (INDRC), where he leads the development of interdisciplinary research programs integrating biostatistics, epidemiology, computational modeling, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing to address complex problems in neurodegeneration, brain aging, and brain performance.

His scientific work spans more than two decades at the intersection of quantitative population science, clinical research, computational methods, and translational medicine. A central focus of his work is the development of systems-based approaches for studying neurodegenerative disease—linking biological, clinical, behavioral, functional, and longitudinal data across multiple scales. His current interests include methods for representing and modeling complex disease processes, evaluation of biomarkers and emerging technologies, real-world evidence, and the development of computational infrastructures capable of supporting multimodal and high-dimensional biomedical research.

Dr. Khachaturian is also Founder and Executive Officer of the Brain Watch Coalition, a public-private initiative focused on building scientific and real-world evidence infrastructure for brain resilience, performance, and health-system innovation. Through this work, he is particularly interested in how quantitative methods and computational technologies can be translated into deployable models for prevention, diagnosis, clinical decision-making, and health-system implementation.

He has held longstanding leadership roles in the Alzheimer's disease and aging research communities, including serving as founding Executive Editor of the Alzheimer’s & Dementia journal family. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Aging Research & Lifestyle and Vitality, Medicine & Engineering, and is co-host of the Frontiers podcast Empowering Proteomics.
